DAAD EPOS (Development-Related Postgraduate Courses)

Germany's development-cooperation scholarship for professionals from developing and emerging countries. Aimed at applicants with at least two years of work experience who will take skills back home. One of the most accessible fully-funded routes to Germany.

What it covers

  • Monthly stipend (≈ €992 for Masters, ≈ €1,300 for PhD)
  • Health, accident and liability insurance
  • Travel allowance
  • Tuition (most German public universities charge none anyway)

Can you apply?

  • Bachelor degree completed no longer than 6 years ago
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience after the bachelor
  • From an ODA-listed country (most of Asia, Africa and Latin America qualifies — check DAAD's list)
  • Apply directly to the participating course, which nominates you to DAAD

Insider tips

  1. 01The 2-year work experience rule is strict — NGO, industry, and research jobs all count, but document them with employer letters.
  2. 02Your motivation letter must connect your work experience → the course → development impact back home. That chain is the rubric.
  3. 03Each EPOS course has its own deadline and portal. Track them separately — missing the course deadline means missing DAAD.
