  • Daily living allowance
  • Round-trip airfare to Okinawa

  • 2–6 months in a research unit at a fully English-speaking graduate university

Can you apply?

  • Undergraduate (final years) or Masters student in sciences, or recent graduate
  • All nationalities — OIST is one of the most international campuses on earth
  • You apply to specific research units, so your interests must match a unit

Insider tips

  1. 01Read 2–3 recent papers from the unit you name and reference them concretely — unit professors read applications themselves.
  2. 02Competition is fierce; applying to a newer or less famous unit with genuine overlap beats a generic application to a star lab.
  3. 03If you're considering a PhD later, say so — the internship is explicitly used as a recruitment channel.
